Like Jurassic Park with another dimension

Sky has unveiled its first original 3D commission that it hopes will help it woo more than just footie fans; “Flying Monsters 3D”.

The new commission, written and presented by Sir David Attenborough will get a cinema release in both large format and IMAX cinemas around the world, but importantly for Sky, will premiere on Sky 3D later this year.

The film focuses on pterosaurs – flying vertebrates with a wingspan of up to 45 feet who lived 200 million years ago.

“Having learnt my television skills in the days of black and white, and been involved with the introduction of colour, I’m thrilled to be part of one of the first 3D television projects”, says Sir David Attenborough. “3D is a wonderful way of seeing the world as the pterosaurs did, and it’s to Sky’s credit that they’ve taken on the challenge to be the first to broadcast in 3D”.

Sky is promising the use cutting-edge 3D TV technology to bring the prehistoric world alive.

“Viewers will be immersed in the environment that these creatures – the size of small jet aeroplanes – inhabited”.

Sky 3D will launch to residential customers with a wide range of?content spanning movies, sport, entertainment, the arts and documentaries. “Flying Monsters 3D” is the first confirmed commission for Sky’s 3D channel, it will also air in 2D later in the year following its 3D premiere.
